Energy Efficiency Transition Training Support and Heat Pump Training

The National Energy Efficiency Transition Support and Heat Pump Training Fund, supported by ESP has been put in place by the Scottish Government to support those in the energy, engineering and construction sectors who’s careers have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.  

The fully funded courses, offered by nine Scottish Colleges, are aimed at upskilling and enhancing the qualifications of individuals aged 25 or older who are redundant or at risk of being made redundant.

The courses cover key areas and combine online learning with onsite practical elements on a college campus near you to ensure you gain the skills and qualifications employers really value.  

What training can I access?

Air Source Ground Source Heat Pumps (4 Days)

This course is designed to give installers the skills and knowledge required to correctly install heat pumps.

Pre-requisites: 
Plumbing and HVAC Engineers (must hold appropriate industry qualifications at SVQ level 3 or equivalent).

Energy Battery Storage Awareness (1 Day)

This course is designed to improve awareness amongst current contractors who are involved in the electrical industry or the design, upgrade and maintenance of private and public buildings. The scope of the course covers safety aspect in relation to battery storage systems, installation options along with outlining the maintenance and efficiency of this type of installation.

Pre-requisites:
Electricians (must hold appropriate industry recognised qualifications at SVQ level 3 or equivalent).

This course is designed to provide electricians with the skills and knowledge required to install small scale photovoltaic (PV) systems to single phase supplies.

Water Byelaws (1 Day)

This course is for anyone requiring an understanding of water regulations / water byelaws, in particular those wishing to become approved plumbers / contractors.

Unvented Hot Water (1 Day)

This course is for plumbing and heating engineers who want to install Domestic Hot Water Storage Systems to enable them to demonstrate their competence so they join a Competent Persons’ Scheme allowing the self-certification of installations, or to notify the local Building Control Department prior to commencing work.

Introduction to Digital Smart Homes (1 Day)

This course is an introduction to various Smart Devices available which can all be integrated into existing homes. The aim of this short introduction is to allow candidates to become familiar with these devices on the market and also how these can be installed, programmed and controlled. A basic small home is used to showcase the simulated application of these devices.

The aim of this course is to ensure that managers and supervisors understand that they are accountable and responsible for issues relating to health and safety in the workplace. You will be provided with knowledge to assist decision making with regard to meeting legal and business requirements.

To apply you must be aged 25 or over, live in Scotland AND have become unemployed since 1 March 2020 or be at risk of redundancy / unemployment (e.g. received redundancy notification or furloughed)
For some courses, there are academic pre-course requirements these are listed in the dropdown under each course listed above.
All training must be completed by 31st July 2021.
No limit – some courses may be interlinked. This should be discussed with the college you are applying to.
Not directly from the scheme but if you are unemployed you should raise this with the Job Centre.
